When John Brooks heard Henry Ford’s famous offer of his Model T in any colour the purchaser wanted so long as it was black, the Birmingham saddle giant must have allowed himself a wry grin. Because traditionally, most saddles leaving the Brooks factory have also tended, in colour at least, towards the conservative.
However, you may have read recently on the Brooks Blog about our Limited Edition and commemorative saddles. Occasionally we release these Editions in colours that mark a departure from our usual understatedly classic darker tones.
In the past, occasional pieces like the eye-catching Raspberry B18, or the White Tokyo Team Pro have been very well received. And of course, last year we also reintroduced the iconic Brooks Colt in several unusual finishes, including violet, turquoise and pink. So this year we decided to introduce more new colours into our range of saddles and accessories.
Keep in mind however, that these brief departures into colour are just that, departures, and tend to go out of stock sooner rather than later.
But for the coming months, you will be able to colour-coordinate with more Brooks accessories than ever before. Our slender bar grips are being issued in a new length (100mm), and to accompany this, we are delivering them in any of the colours you see in our picture above. It is also possible to order extra replacement lengths of different colours, so if you’re careful about removing the old set, you can mix and match the tape with your frame, your saddle, or whatever your imagination conjures.
For years, our leather Trouser Strap has prevented chainside hosiery from getting snagged or dirty and continues to do so. But from the coming autumn, it will now perform its job not just in black, honey and brown, but also in raspberry, apple, violet, mandarin, natural and turquoise.
And as to our selection of leather tape for drop handlebars, we have augmented the range of different colours available to include a Mustard, Apple, Violet, Turquoise, Dark Blue, Raspberry and … White!
We’ve also decided it would be unfair if our most popular saddle, the B17, were to miss out on all the fun. For this reason it will shortly be available in three new colours, as shown in the picture below.
But, for the record, here is where we draw the line regarding the application of colour:
